Start with the whole end fitting
A round rubber part is easy to notice, but the surrounding parts explain what it does. Follow the coated cable from the outlet to its eyelet. Record the ball, any narrow strain-relief sleeve, the terminal and its retaining hardware without undoing the assembly. Two balls of similar diameter can belong to different end designs.
Vision Fitness illustrates a ball stop, strain relief, eyelet and locking screw as separate elements of one cable-protection assembly. That drawing helps identify parts; it does not establish the fitting or repair procedure for a PBF rack. Match the model and supplied parts drawing before ordering a loose ball.
A stop is not a travel upgrade
In Bowflex's Xtreme 2 SE assembly instructions, a stop ball and retainer prevent the cable from sliding backwards over the pulleys. Other manufacturers specify an outlet gap as part of their cable setup. These examples show why a small part can affect the terminal's relationship with the pulley mouth.
Do not cut away a ball, move it along the cable or substitute a smaller one to finish an exercise that runs out of travel. The movement may be limited by the stack, carriage or another part of the routing. Changing the outlet protection leaves that limiting condition unresolved and changes the assembly the manufacturer supplied.
Separate an unusual gap from a broken part
Observe the machine at rest and photograph the cable exit and resting weight stack. A terminal that sits differently after service can indicate a routing or adjustment issue. Stop using a cracked, loose or visibly displaced protective assembly and request inspection rather than pulling hard to see whether it holds.
There is no universal millimetre gap for all rack outlets. Johnson Health Tech's older field-upgrade bulletin and Vision's cable guide describe different scoped arrangements. Do not borrow a clearance, threadlocker, screw size or cable-tension value from one of those documents for another brand or revision.
Order a repair boundary, not just a rubber sphere
Ask whether the approved repair replaces individual protective parts or the entire cable assembly. Request the part identity, applicable machine revision, authorized service procedure and checks needed before return to use. An online listing that matches only cable-hole size cannot answer those questions.
Send PBF the rack model, order identifier and clear photos of the complete outlet fitting. Include when the symptom began and whether the cable was recently serviced. Obtain a matched parts decision before dismantling a loaded cable system; keep the rack unavailable until the prescribed inspection and repair are complete.
